Ronald Reagan first met Barry Goldwater, Jr. after Reagan was hired by Barry's Father to give speeches for the 1964 Goldwater campaign.

Later it was Barry and his Father giving their support to Reagan during his successful run for President.

Quote from Senator John McCain: “Ronald Reagan, many times, said he would never have been President of the United States if it hadn't been for Barry Goldwater. So he certainly took the party out of the hands of the eastern establishment and moved it west.”
